Reward Based Dog Training

Lauren Waye | DDT, FFCP

Hi, I’m Lauren the passionate dog lover behind Tidal Tails. I hold numerous certifications, including credentials as a Dogma Dog Trainer (DDT) and Fear Free Certified Professional (FFCP). With a lifelong connection to animals and deeply-rooted love for dogs, I have made it my mission to help owners and their furry friends build stronger bonds through effective training.

My journey began with a small dog walking business, where I discovered my keen understanding of canine behaviour and meeting their unique needs. Driven by my desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of dogs and their guardians, I decided to pursue my passion further and become a certified dog trainer.

Now, with a wealth of hands-on experience and professional training, I’m dedicated to empowering both dogs and their humans to overcome challenges, foster a deeper connection, and to create a lasting relationship built on trust and understanding.

Whether you’re dealing with leash pulling, jumping or other behavioural concerns, I’m here to guide you through it. Together we’ll turn your dog’s training challenges into achievable goals, ensuring a happier, healthier life for both you and your pup.

Training Methods

At Tidal Tails, I am here to help you through the ebbs and flows of dog training. We work together to come up with a personalized training plan that fits your lifestyle. I aim to integrate training into your day to day life so training fits seamlessly into your routine rather than feeling like extra work. We will create goals that feel attainable, not impossible and focus on keeping training fun for both ends of the leash.

I do not use equipment or methods that suppress behaviour. My approach is clear, compassionate and force free. I welcome anyone who has previously used aversive training methods, but I do not use equipment such as prong collars, shock collars or choke collars. I do not hold judgement and understand that we are all doing the best we can with the knowledge we have at the time. If you are looking for a more humane approach to training, you are in the right place.

Positive reinforcement training is all about finding what motivates your dog. We will use food, toys, praise and real-life rewards to reinforce desired behaviour. I will help you enhance the relationship you have with your dog. This is where the magic happens. They learn to work with you because they want to and learn that it’s fun! By creating a safe and supportive environment, your dog will be more receptive to learning and create positive associations with their environment. I believe this is essential for effective, long lasting training.
